Cory Wright Joins Jax State Baseball Staff
JACKSONVILLE – Jacksonville State head baseball coach Steve Bieser has added Cory Wright to his staff and will serve as the Gamecocks’ Director of Baseball Operation and Player Development.
Wright joins Jax State after serving one season as the pitching coach at Emporia State. Wright, from St. Charles, Illinois, has experience in the region prior to his stop at Emporia State.
Wright served the pitching coach at Valdosta State for two seasons prior to ESU. The Blazers advanced to the NCAA South Regional in each of those two seasons while the pitching staff allowed the fewest walks in the Gulf South Conference over that time. In the summer of 2023, he served as the pitching coach for the Jackson (Tenn.) Rockabillys of the Prospect League.
“I’m very excited to be bringing Cory (Wright) on board, he complements our coaching staff very well,” said head coach Steve Bieser. “His passion and knowledge for the game really stood out through the interview process. He will be a valuable resource to our coaching staff and serve our players at Jax state well.”
A former Blazer of VSU, Wright wrapped up his career in 2021 with eight appearances out of the bullpen. He finished at VSU after transferring from Mercer and played in 42 games as a Bear.
He was a two way player his first two seasons of college first at Kansas State and then at Parkland (Ill.) CC. He hit .402 and scored 67 runs while posting a 2.25 ERA in six appearances on the mound. Parkland advanced to the NJCAA Division II World Series. He played in 21 games with eight pitching appearances as a freshman for Brad Hill at KSU.
both of his parents attended Emporia State with his father Phil a member of the 1984 Hornet team that advanced to the NAIA World Series.
