Football Embarks on Third Week of Camp

Jax StateJACKSONVILLE-The third week of camp serves as almost a halfway point of sorts. Jax State is two weeks into camp and opens the 2024 season in just over two weeks.

For coach Rich Rodriguez and his staff, it is a crucial week to determine who will take the field on August 29th against Coastal Carolina.

“We have a lot we’ve already installed and have to refine and we’ll start getting into game planning maybe by the end of the week,” said Rodriguez of this week. “It’s also a big evaluation week for us. We have to find out who our top guys are and who we can win with.”

That includes special teams where Rodriguez feels the team has a lot of work to do this week.

Rodriguez feels the team continues to get better and found some positives after having the opportunity to review the film from Saturday’s scrimmage.

“I think they understood the schemes pretty well,” said Rodriguez. “There’s still a lot of technique work we have to do.”

Two touchdowns came from the tight end group on Saturday which could be a strength for the team. Sean Brown is on the Mackey Award Watch List for the second year in a row and Jacob Barrick has seen some quality reps in camp as well.

“We probably do as much or more with our tight ends than anyone in the country,” said Rodriguez of the tight end group. “We ask a lot of them to play in space and be tough guys playing in the middle there.”
