Jax State Soccer Begins Preseason Training Sessions
JACKSONVILLE – After reporting to campus on Monday, the Jacksonville State soccer team hot the natural grass of the Jax State Soccer Complex for the first time on Tuesday with a pair of training sessions.
In year two under head coach Sean Fraser, the Gamecocks will have a crash-course fall camps with the first of two exhibition games in the preseason on Monday, August 5 against in-state rival UAB. Jax State concludes the friendly matches on August 11 against Samford. Admission to all Jax State home matches is free.
“It was great to get out on the grass this morning. I enjoyed seeing the girls running around again competing,” said head coach Sean Fraser. “While this morning was our first practice together there was plenty of positive’s to take from it and we were excited to progress as the week goes on
Fraser and staff welcomed 20 new members to the program on Monday and will count on veterans from the 2023 club to blend in ahead of the 2024 season that officially begins on August 15 against the Wolves of West Georgia, who will be playing in their first match as a rising NCAA Division I program.
Jax State returns its top-two goal scorers from last season with senior Laleh Lonteen and junior Naroa Domenech. The pairing combined for 15-of-the-35 goals turned in by the Gamecocks last season. Lonteen earned All-Conference USA Second Team honors after a stellar junior campaign. The Prosper, Texas native accumulated 21 points after her eight goals and seven assists. Domenech finished with 16 points after collecting seven goals and a pair of assists.
